Job Description

Experienced, entrepreneurial, and curious leader to help establish an Innovation function at CoBank and elevate the ability of the enterprise to succesfully address the intersection of technology and business strategy. Working within the bank's existing Strategic Analysis team, the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of how technology is reshaping the delivery of financial services, strong business and technical acumen, and the ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership as well as technical specialists and subject matter experts in the bank's IT, data and operations organizations. A leadership mentality and a passion for innovation are additional prerequisites for this role. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ideate, experiment, develop proofs of concept for incubation, and pursue commercialization of successful concepts. This role will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of the organization, fostering creativity, and driving the development of cutting-edge solutions.

Essential Functions

Direct CoBank’s Innovation function, managing a direct report, and collaborating across the organization to advance new ideas and concepts. Leverage knowledge of emerging technology trends to move the organization forward.
Provide input into the innovation planning process and guide technology innovation roadmaps.
Manage the concept pipeline, owning the ideation, proof of concept, and prototype stages.
Partner effectively with CoBank’s Technology and Data team, which will provide resources to the Innovation function on an as-needed basis.
 Analyze and synthesize complicated and ambiguous information, solve complex problems, provide cross-functional leadership, and work persuasively at all levels of the organization.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and challenges. Collaborate with data, technology, and operations to develop potential solutions within an agile framework.
Foster a culture of innovation through idea sharing and alliance building.
Conduct market research to identify capability gaps and opportunities for new innovation.
Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with fintechs, startups and other external partners to enhance innovation capabilities.
Serve as an effective spokesperson on Innovation outside the bank, particularly within the Farm Credit System.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technology, or a related field. required

Work Experience

  • 7 years of experience in innovation, software engineering, or related role, required prior experience working hands-on experience in AWS environment for developing proof of concepts on AI/large language models, and other architectural patterns like event driven programming and API integrations, required strong understanding of emerging technologies and their application in financial services.
  • Familiarity with tech stacks like React, Vue.JS, Node.JS, Python, AWS native services, and other open source software
  • Ability to dive deep into technology with engineers and also lead higher level strategic discussions.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful product development and implementation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical concepts for various audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Self-starter comfortable working with minimal oversight.

Physical Exertion Details

Sedentary Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The typical base pay range for this role is between $154,057 - $214,216. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
