Job Description

Oversees CoBank's multifaceted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, including corporate giving and commercial sponsorships. Advises senior and executive management on CSR strategy. Researches charitable partners and designs grants and programs that support the CoBank and Farm Credit missions, differentiate the bank from its competitors, and positively impact its reputation among key stakeholders, Develops CSR guidelines and procedures and ensures accurate execution. Manages annual budget in excess of $15 million. Administers the distribution of funds to recipient organizations in an accurate and timely fashion and in accordance with corporate approval guidelines. Interfaces with executives, board members, employees, charitable partners and others on CSR-related matters. Establishes strong relationships with customers, including Farm Credit banks and associations. Develops and executes joint Farm Credit CSR initiatives. Represents the bank publically on CSR-related matters including serving on charitable boards at the request of management. Promotes recognition for the bank's CSR investments through a variety of publicity-related activities, including the annual CSR report, corporate announcements, media relations and advertising. Manages the work of a CSR manager (full time) anda full time coordinator. Develops reports that enable the board and executive management to track the progress and results of CSR programs. Partners with internal stakeholders to develop reporting for regulator on key initiatives.

Essential Functions

1. Develops and executes a comprehensive CSR strategy for CoBank.
2. Advises board of directors, senior management and other members of staff on CSR investments.
3. Administers the bank’s budgets for corporate philanthropy and commercial sponsorships consistent with board-approved policy in both areas. Ensures compliance with approval guidelines for contributions and other corporate procedures.
4. Oversees the bank’s annual Sharing Success Program, including the distribution of matching grants to charitable organizations supported by eligible customers.
5. Oversees a variety of other high-visibility CSR programs, including board-directed contribution program, the employee-directed contribution, the No Barriers program for rural veterans, and the annual corporate United Way campaign.
6. Partners with Farm Credit and other key customers to develop joint programs that enhance the reputation of all participants and build strong relationships with CoBank stakeholders.
7. Manages the commercial sponsorship contributions to a wide variety of trade organizations important to customers and industries financed by CoBank.
8. Partners closely with the bank’s Government Affairs team on contributions that enhance the bank’s reputation with policymakers and legislative stakeholders.
9. Designs new giving programs that meet the evolving needs of the bank as a responsible corporate citizen.
10. Promotes recognition for the bank’s CSR investments through a variety of publicity-related activities, including the annual sustainability report, corporate announcements, media relations and advertising.
11. Develops reports that enable the board and executive management to track the progress and results of CSR programs.
12. Supervises staff. Sets performance standards, manages workflow, grants authorities, evaluates performance, provides coaching/mentoring, and recommends personnel actions within delegated authorities. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
13. Develops staff members to ensure professional growth. Expands capabilities of team to ensure a more resilient organization.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or relevant discipline, required

Work Experience

10 years of relevant experience, including experience with CSR programs at large corporate enterprises, required
1. Management/supervisory experience , preferably in a corporate environment.
2. Project management skills, including the ability to manage workload and prioritize and communicate tasks for multiple projects across the team and for other stakeholders.
3. Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with all levels of management, staff, and external customers and other stakeholders, and to work effectively with diverse teams.
5. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Able to manage and schedule workload and projects in order to navigate peaks and prioritize multiple competing commitments. Skilled at managing short-term objectives to meet long-term goals.
6. Demonstrated teambuilding and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and positively motivate team members, instill accountability and facilitate successful achievement of individual, team, business and strategic goals.
7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $154,057 - $214,216. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
