Job Description

Supports the bank's architectural vision and roadmap. Specializes in cloud-native architectures, microservices, and distributed systems.

Essential Functions

1. Contribute actively to developing and refining the bank's architectural vision and roadmap, specializing in cloud-native architectures, microservices, and distributed systems.
2. Manage and oversee the maintenance of Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), ensuring all decisions align with the strategic direction and are effectively communicated across teams.
3. Advocate for and implement agile architectural practices, maintaining a balance between innovation, autonomy, and compliance with industry regulations and governance.
4. Design and lead the development of REST APIs and microservices, applying advanced security practices such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and adhering to OpenAPI specifications.
5. Drive the adoption of CI/CD methodologies and tools, supporting practices like Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and immutable infrastructure for reproducible and scalable deployments.
6. Lead the architecture of modern observability and debugging frameworks, selecting and integrating tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, PagerDuty, CloudWatch, App Insights, Dynatrace, or New Relic.
7. Champion security within the software development lifecycle, embedding DevSecOps and shift-left principles into the culture and practices.
8. Communicate architectural strategies and decisions effectively, providing clear direction and education to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
9. Collaborate closely with business, product, and architecture teams to ensure the accuracy of the "Business capability model" reflecting the latest architectural strategies.
10. Make informed tactical and strategic decisions, offering architectural insights that influence the direction of projects and initiatives.
11. Demonstrate a solid command of cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), making sound architectural decisions based on in-depth knowledge and experience with these platforms.
12. Lead by example with hands-on development and prototyping of architectural patterns and proofs of concept (POCs), driving innovation and setting standards for engineering teams.
13. Partner with Data Engineering to enhance data governance practices and strategize on application rationalization, cloud migration, and data-centric architectures.
14. Showcase leadership capabilities by guiding engineering teams, fostering a learning environment, and ensuring effective translation of architectural strategies into implementation.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required

Work Experience

3 years of expertise in architecting and implementing cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP) involving FAAS/serverless or Containerized workloads, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins), and agile methodologies (scaled scrum, SAFe) required
3 years of practical experience in API security, best practices, and standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and proficiency in OpenAPI specifications required
4 years of overall relevant hands-on development experience, with a portfolio of architectural patterns and proofs of concept demonstrating innovative problem-solving preferred
2 years in architecting and leading the implementation of event-driven architectures via platforms like RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, Kafka, or Azure Event Hub preferred
Significant experience in regulated industries such as banking, demonstrating the ability to lead architectural initiatives and deliver outcomes.
Leadership experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams, with a focus on delivering high-quality software projects.

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $105,223 - $146,312. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
