Job Description

As a Cloud Data Ops Engineer at CoBank, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our cloud-based data infrastructure and operations, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and efficiency. You will play a critical role in deploying, monitoring, and maintaining data pipelines and services on cloud platforms, particularly AWS, while adhering to best practices in DevOps and DataOps methodologies. You will collaborate closely with data engineering, IT, and business teams to ensure the smooth operation of our data ecosystem and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. Essential Functions include:

Essential Functions

1. Design, deploy, and maintain data pipelines and services on cloud platforms, leveraging AWS native services and open-source technologies.
2. Implement automated deployment and monitoring solutions for data infrastructure and applications, utilizing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and configuration management tools.
3. Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of data systems through proactive monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
4. Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to optimize data workflows and queries for performance and cost-efficiency.
5. Develop and maintain documentation and runbooks for data operations processes and procedures.
6. Implement security best practices for data storage, transmission, and access control, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
7. Participate in capacity planning and resource optimization efforts to support the scaling of data infrastructure in alignment with business needs.
8. Stay updated on cloud computing trends and technologies, evaluating new tools and services for potential adoption to enhance data operations capabilities.
9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues and incidents, ensuring minimal impact on business operations.
10. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the data operations team and across the organization.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. required
  • Bachelor's degree may be substituted with four years of related experience (four years is in addition to what is minimally required for the role), or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. preferred

Work Experience

5 years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure management, data operations, or a related field, required
Prior Experience working with AWS cloud services and technologies, required
Prior Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK, required
Prior Experience with other cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure. preferred
1. Proficiency in cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS, and experience with cloud-native data services such as Amazon Redshift, Amazon EMR, AWS Glue, etc.
2. Strong understanding of DevOps and DataOps principles, with experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
3. Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
4. Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
5. Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Amazon CloudWatch, Datadog, ELK Stack, etc., for monitoring and troubleshooting cloud-based infrastructure.
6. Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements, with experience implementing security controls and encryption mechanisms for data protection.
7. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a cloud environment.
8. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
9. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, staying updated on emerging cloud technologies and best practices.
10. Core Competencies:

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $86,961 - $120,919. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
