Job Description

Supports the bank's architectural vision and roadmap. Specializes in cloud-native architectures, microservices, and distributed systems.

Essential Functions

1. Drives the strategic development of the bank's architectural vision and roadmap, demonstrating expertise in cloud-native architectures, microservices, distributed systems, and advanced event-driven architectures.
2. Oversees the comprehensive maintenance and curation of Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), ensuring decisions uphold the bank's strategic objectives and are effectively communicated and understood across all teams.
3. Champions agile and SAFe architectural methodologies, providing leadership in balancing innovation, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
4. Leads the architectural design and development of REST APIs and microservices architectures, ensuring robust security practices are embedded, such as OAuth, JWT, and adherence to OpenAPI specifications.
4. Architects and guide engineering teams in developing solutions for complex use cases, utilizing cloud-native managed services to ensure architectures are scalable, resilient, and maintainable.
5. Masters and advocates for advanced CI/CD methodologies and tools, promoting Infrastructure as Code (IaC), immutable infrastructure, and DevOps best practices to streamline and secure deployment processes.
6. Develops and standardizes modern observability and debugging frameworks across the enterprise, utilizing a suite of tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, PagerDuty, CloudWatch, App Insights, Dynatrace, or New Relic to proactively manage system health and performance.
7. Leads the integration of security practices and operational best practices, solidifying a culture that prioritizes DevSecOps and shift-left principles.
8. Serves as a key architectural spokesperson, articulating complex architectural strategies and decisions to a variety of stakeholders, including executive leadership, with clarity and conviction.
9. Forges strong collaborative relationships with business, product, and architecture teams to refine and enhance the "Business capability model," ensuring alignment with long-term strategic goals.
10. Makes critical tactical and strategic architectural decisions, providing thought leadership that shapes the bank's technology landscape and future direction.
11. Exhibits deep expertise in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), leveraging this knowledge to make authoritative architectural decisions and provide guidance on platform-specific best practices.
12. Leads hands-on development initiatives, crafting architectural patterns and proofs of concept (POCs) that push the boundaries of innovation and set a high standard for engineering practices.
13. Strategizes with Data Engineering on data governance, driving forward-thinking approaches to application rationalization, cloud migration, and the exploitation of data-centric technologies.
14. Provides exceptional leadership in guiding and mentoring engineering teams, instilling a vision that architectural strategy is effectively implemented and operationalized.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required

Work Experience

10 years of overall hands-on experience spanning various disciplines of the software development lifecycle, with a proven track record of delivering customized software solutions as well as commercially marketed products through SaaS models, required
5 years of practical experience in API security, best practices, and standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and proficiency in OpenAPI specifications, required
5 years of leadership experience in managing engineering teams or in delivering (not just strategizing) software projects, required
4 years in architecting and implementing cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure or GCP) that could have involved FAAS/serverless or Containerized workloads, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins etc) and agile methodologies(scaled scrum, SAFe), required
3 years in architecting and leading the implementation of event-driven architectures via platforms like RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, Kafka or Azure Event Hub etc required
2 years of experience using or rolling out a suite of modern observability and application monitoring frameworks/tools within the applications you managed (eg. Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Datadog, NewRelic). required
1. Extensive experience in a highly regulated industry like banking, leading architecture across large teams with a proven track record of delivering organizational outcomes.
2. Demonstrated experience showing effective communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders (Business, Product Managers/Product Owners, Architects, App Dev Teams, Operations).
3. Demonstrated communication and leadership skills, capable of steering technical discussions and driving architectural decisions.
4. Demonstrated exceptional leadership in guiding and mentoring engineering teams, instilling a vision that architectural strategy is effectively implemented and operationalized.

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $127,320 - $177,038. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
