Job Description

Prepares financial reports and analysis for shareholders, regulator, funding corporation and/or executive management assuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements and financial reporting practices. Ensures accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all financial reports and in alignment with expectations and established deadlines. Performs special projects that support the financial reporting requirements of the Controller Division, including system testing and implementation work, process improvements, automation and other enhancements.

Essential Functions

  • 1. Prepares shareholder, regulator, district and/or funding corporation analysis and reporting.
  • 2. Prepares certain financial sections of the CoBank and/or District annual and quarterly reports and ensures adequate and appropriate disclosures.
  • 3. Compiles and reconciles complex and disaggregated loan data from multiple data sources for monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • 4. Requests, collects and processes necessary data outside of the financial reporting group to complete reporting deliverables, through collaboration with other groups within CoBank, as well as other Farm Credit entities.
  • 5. Creates/maintains ad hoc reports to track financial data used in the reporting process or other key initiatives.
  • 6. Prepares journal entries, eliminations and/or variance analyses for financial statements and other financial information.
  • 7. Maintains department controls, processes, and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial reporting and compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, internal control over financial reporting (ICFR), and industry practice.
  • 8. Maintains current knowledge of accounting, reporting and regulatory rules and evaluates the impact on CoBank’s financial statements.
  • 9. Develops/maintains automated accounting system reports and spreadsheets.
  • 10. Completes or assists with special projects and performs other duties, as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or relevant discipline required
  • Master's Degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or progress toward certification preferred

Work Experience

5 years of combined financial reporting, corporate accounting, and/or public accounting experience, preferably in banking or the financial services industry required1. Strong knowledge of GAAP. 2. Experience with financial reporting tools, such as Hyperion and Oracle (e.g. FCCS, PeopleSoft and SmartView) preferred. 3. Proven skills in financial reporting, financial statement analysis. 4. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing commitments in accordance with established deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 5. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. 6. Strong attention to detail. 7. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and build relationships with associates and management at all levels across the bank. 8. Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements while driving automation and efficiencies. 9. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $89,600 - $110,160. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
