Job Description

The Release Train Engineer (RTE) has ultimate accountability for orchestrating the Agile processes and execution, escalating impediments, managing risk and directing Agile Release Train (ART) level continuous improvement. This role is accountable for ensuring all ART events and processes are adhered to. The RTE establishes an effective management team that allows the ART to grow to scale. Success of this role is measured in terms of how well events/processes are planned & executed, as well as the success and predictability of the teams delivering on their PI Objectives and commitments. The RTE in this role will be responsible for one ART. The RTE is a lean-agile leader and will also be responsible for promoting agile values including promoting systems thinking, supporting the teams' and trains' commitments, leading change, and leading by example.

Essential Functions

  • Organize and facilitate all ART level planning events as outlined in the Scaled Agile Framework
  • Ensures PI planning readiness through pre-PI planning activities (backlog reviews, preparedness)
  • Publishes ART PI Objectives for visibility and transparency
  • Assists in managing and escalating risks, impediments and dependencies impacting multiple teams/groups (both within and outside of the ART), escalating to management and managing the resolution
  • Proactively identify & lead areas needing process improvement, facilitate solutions and escalate accordingly
  • Implement and socialize ART level metrics
  • Report ART level progress, status, metrics to senior leaders and required stakeholders
  • Create and maintain the appropriate vehicles for open communication between Agile teams (e.g. tracker boards) to create a trusting and safe environment
  • Facilitate the identification of ART level issues & risks through ART Inspect & Adapts and Scrum of Scrums and ensure processes are effective
  • Coordinate cross-train/cross-functional dependencies and activities as needed to deliver value across multiple ARTs
  • Ensuring Agile delivery teams within the ART comply with governance and risk management processes
  • Build relationships with Product, Business Owners, Management team, team members and other Stakeholders
  • Collaborate with associates across the organization to get things done
  • Participates in CoBank’s Agile Chapter (or Guild) to further improve agile best practices
  • Mentor and coach Scrum Masters
  • As a people manager at CoBank, you will be expected to manage and lead associates. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, associate performance management, talent strategy, workforce planning, change management, conflict resolution, and relationship management. You will drive and be accountable for the team’s development, alignment with the division’s objectives, as well as with CoBank’s strategy and mission.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • SAFe certified SM

Work Experience

  • 4 years of experience serving as Scrum Master, required
  • 4 years of experience in Banking, Financial or other highly regulated industry, required
  • 4 years of experience in in managing people required
  • 4 years of experience working with medium to large complexity initiatives, required
  • 3 years proficiency with Agile Management tools (i.e. Jira, ADO), required
  • Proficiency with Agile Management tools (i.e. Jira, ADO)
  • Limited experience leading distributed/virtual teams
  • Working knowledge of modern software engineering techniques such as Continuous Integration, build, deliver, test-driven development and other automated acceptance testing techniques
  • Effective Written Communication
  • Gathering relevant information to inform decisions. .
  • Knowledge of CI pipelines.
  • Ability to develop build and test automation.
  • Knowledge of CI implementations.

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $98,500 - $121,180. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.  The listed salary, other compensation and benefits information is accurate as of the date of this posting.
